History

It all started with T:mi Laten Mopo

Latenkone’s base is T:mi Laten Mopo, founded by Lasse Saarenpää at 14 years old in his hometown Soini. Lasse bought affordable mopeds and fixed them as a hobby. At first he worked with mostly mopeds, but with his accumulating skills and money, he started to work around motocross bikes, light motorcycles and small machinery.

T:mi Laten Mopo grew and developed as small steps with the young businessman. The actual work machinery’s repairing and selling got its start in 2004 with a self-imported Caterpillar TH62 telehandler. The first foreign purchase didn’t turn out to be a catch, and it was repaired for over a year before it was in a shape for work. The telehandler was sold after some lucky trades and that was the moment he realised that he would always be doing this.

2016

The first foreign purchase (in 2004) came back to Latenkone Oy in 2016 and left for a new owner soon.

The first own premises were built in Tuuri in 2008. A 70m2 garage was built nearby home, and the bedroom got a new purpose as an office. When business evolved to a full-time job, Latenkone Oy was established alongside T:mi Laten Mopo in early 2009.

Logo has changed over times.

Next year the first regular workshop employee was hired. In the summer of 2011 businesses kept growing and when the second employee came for a summerjob, a bigger hall was a necessarity.

Fortunately a lot was found in a good place for business in Tuuri, alongside the main road. It felt natural to locate marketplace and offices in the same place as garage. Groundworks started in the summer and the actual construction took off in autumn 2011. Investment was very important for the company and the grand-total grew over a half of revenue at that time. In autumn 2012 the garage hall and office were ready along the asphalt yard.

When the proper work got started, new employees were hired and the revenue settled to a little over a million euros. In 2013 company’s website was heavily updated and new products were listed determinedly. There was six regular employees, and in the summer there was 10 employees for the very first time.

2012 to 2017 was a period when the sales and selection grew at full speed. Company’s comprehensive development, product selection’s increasing and above all taking care of customers, services and crew sped up growth and made revenue quadruple to 5 million euros (2017) in five years.

Year 2018 was important for Latenkone Oy in many ways. The company celebrated 20th year anniversary, and even though the anniversary wasn’t seen in the middle of work, at least customers were reminded of it by giving them liquourice packs with anniversary logo.

Latenkone 20-vuotis juhlalogo

What a coincidence, that in the 20-year-anniversary year Latenkone Oy also surpassed the edge of 20 employees. As the staff has grown, the entrepreneur has understood that not everything has to be done by himself.

In later 2018 started to happen more. Lasse Saarenpää was chosen as The young entrepreneur -competition’s winner, of over 20 provincial winners and approx. 200 other declared entrepreneurs. The selection was clearly noticed: in November Lasse got an invitation from the President Sauli Niinistö to the Independence Day Reception in Presidential palace in 6.12.2018.

The website has always been a strong base of Latenkone’s business. New expression and website were set up for a long time and they were published in May 2018.

As the business grew, the property started to be too tight, so in the years 2018-2020 the hall space was increased significantly. Business premises doubled when the last extension became ready in later 2020.

Even though the slogan “Half-serious machine selling” is hard to explain (because of the expanding selection), business is still ran with a twinkle in the eye, just like back in the days!
